Custom Cut Lumber

All our lumber is rough sawn on a portable Wood-Mizer band sawmill and air dried.

Because Mother Nature is the one that largely controls what is available to us from our property, our stock is not available in large quantities nor is the lumber necessarily of the highest grades available commercially. We can only produce lumber as good as the supply of logs available to us from the property. 

As such, our lumber products will be of greatest interest to local woodworkers, artisans, farmers, contractors looking for special dimension lumber pieces, nurseries, landscape companies and for many do-it-yourself projects.

The lumber is air dried only and could still have high moisture content depending on when it was cut and whether the tree was alive when it was harvested. Therefore, customers need to be aware of the possibility for shrinkage, cupping, or twisting of the lumber as the moisture content decreases over time.

Softwood lumber is produced from available Cedar, Hemlock, Red Pine, White Pine, and Spruce. Softwood lumber dimensions typically range from 1” boards up to 12” wide or as square dimensional lumber, for example, 4”x 4” or 6”x 6”. Lengths up to 16’ may be available.

In utilizing as much of the softwood logs as possible for lumber, there is often lesser quality softwood boards of various widths and lengths produced which can be used for many do it yourself projects such as fence repair, trellises, shelving, birdhouse construction etc.

Hardwood lumber available from time to time includes White Ash, Basswood, Beech, Birch, Black Cherry, Sugar Maple, Poplar, and Red Oak. Boards can be cut up to approximately 24” in width on the sawmill or cut into larger dimension lumber (e.g. 4” x 8” or 6” x 6”). Lengths tend to be shorter than 12’ because of the weight involved in handling such large logs and the weight of the lumber itself.

Specific dimension requirements may be met on a custom cut or resaw basis from existing stock or from future logs retrieved from the forest.
